Week 3 Rowing Report – School Premiership #3, Boat Christening and Come & Try

NIHS boat close up

It was a very busy weekend with rowers battling it out in the third of the school premiership series and coming together to christen our newest addition to the fleet, The Adler. Following on with a sunny Sunday come and try session, we saw 15 new rowers on the water as well as some parents trying out their hand at rowing!

SPS#3 Results

The weather finally played nice this weekend with minimal wind and some cloud cover in the morning for some ideal racing conditions. Rowers continue to build on their racing experience at West Lakes and worked together to make it down the course.

Boat Christening

At midday we all stopped to come together and celebrate our newest addition to the fleet, a sykes racing quad named The Adler in recognition of the Adler family that have been part of the rowing community in various roles over the past 10 years. All four Adler kids were part of the rowing program- James, Lauren, Sophia and Ben. With 3 of them giving back as well in the capacity of coaches. Both Jo and Mike Adler have supported and chaired the rowing parents committee, spending many hours towing, organising and hosting Rowing Community events.

Come and Try

We ran a successful come and try on Sunday 15 February with over 15 participants getting out into a boat for their first time. Following this we had some current rowing parents try their hand at rowing with their children showing them the technique. They gained a new appreciation for the sport and what their children do.

Head of the River

The countdown is on as we have only 4 weeks to go until our final regatta of the season, the 2026 SA Schools Head of the River on Saturday 14 March. We invite anyone in the NIHS community whether you are an old scholar, old rowers, current staff member or student. Please come down to cheer on our school as we compete in the Head of the River. This year we will be proudly co-hosting the regattas alongside PAC, Seymour and SPGS.
