Year 9 Outdoor Education – Rock Climbing Unit

Year 9 Outdoor Education Students visited a local indoor climbing centre.

Our Year 9 Outdoor Education class has just wrapped up an engaging unit on rock climbing. Students explored the fundamentals of risk management, watching documentaries that highlighted the consequences of unsafe outdoor practices and unpacking what can go wrong when preparation and judgement fall short. They then put their learning into action with indoor rock climbing sessions at Vertical Reality Climbing Centre, building technique, confidence and trust in their belay partners. Alongside the physical challenge, students set personal rock climbing goals and reflected on their progress, thinking critically about how they approached risk, pushed their comfort zones and grew as climbers throughout the unit. A great effort from all involved!
