During Week 5, the Stage 2 Health and Wellbeing classes participated in the P.A.R.T.Y. Program. This program is a typically a full day, in-hospital interactive trauma prevention program for young Australians. This year, the P.A.R.T.Y. Team visited NIHS, due to our large student numbers.
The P.A.R.T.Y. Program aims to keep young people safe, promote healthy lifestyles and prevent the devastating effect preventable injuries and death can have on our youth, their families, and the community.
Students received presentations from
- a police officer from the Road Safety Centre
- Specialised Nurses
- Trauma Ambassador, Najee Al-Sarawi, who shared his experience of road trauma and the recovery thereafter.
Students also participated in interactive experiences that simulated
- an Emergency Department trauma, and
- trauma rehabilitation.
From these experiences, it is hoped that student gain a better understanding of the outcomes of risky decisions – decisions that can affect their lives, and the lives of those around them, forever.
