Sister Schools
Students at Norwood International High School are encouraged to participate in overseas group tours and individual student exchanges. Such opportunities allow them to improve their linguistic proficiency in the language they are studying, enrich their international and intercultural knowledge and perspectives, and develop their leadership skills, self-confidence, independence and personal growth.
Opportunities include:
- Sister School Student Group Trips – Japan, Italy, Germany, Taiwan
- Sister School and Student Exchanges – Japan, Italy, Exchange organisations
- Enriching Humanity Tours – World Challenge Expedition, Global Summits in Japan, Hawaii, NIHS
The school aims to have sister school collaborations for each of the five languages it offers in the curriculum.

Takahashi Sister School Exchange

The Takahashi Sister School exchange was established in 1991 and has been a very successful long-standing exchange between the two schools.
Every odd year, Takahashi High School students and staff from Japan visit NIHS, and every even year, students and staff from Norwood International High School visit Takahashi.
The Takahashi Sister School trip occurs during the Term 3 holidays and involves approximately 7 days at Takahashi High School living with a host family, and a 7-day cultural tour of Hiroshima, Kyoto and Tokyo.
Families of students who wish to participate in the reciprocal trip to Japan are encouraged to host a Takahashi student the year before or after their participation or support the school’s International Programs in some way.
Each year there is an opportunity for two students from Takahashi and Norwood International High School to undertake a long term exchange of 2 to 3 months. Further information and Application Forms are available from the teachers of Japanese or the International Programs staff.

Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium School Exchange

The German sister school exchange was established in 2023.
Every ‘odd’ year, Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium students and staff from Germany visit NIHS, and every ‘even’ year, students and staff from Norwood International High School visit Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium.
The Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium Sister School trip occurs during the Term 3 holidays and involves approximately 7 days at Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium living with a host family, and a 7-day cultural tour of Munich and Berlin.
Families of students who wish to participate in the reciprocal trip to Germany are encouraged to host a Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium student the year before or after their participation or support the school’s International Programs in some way.
Each year there is an opportunity for two students from Wilhelm Dorpfeld Gymnasium and Norwood International High School to undertake a long term exchange of 2 to 3 months. Further information and Application Forms are available from the teachers of German or the International Programs staff.

Convitto Nazionale Umberto No 1 School

The Italy Sister School exchange was established in 2015.
The sister school agreement indicates that every ‘even’ year, Convitto Nazionale Umberto No 1 School students and staff from Italy visit Norwood International High School, and every ‘odd’ year, students and staff from Norwood International High School visit Convitto Nazionale Umberto No 1 School.
The Italy Sister School trip occurs at the end of Term 3 and the Term 3 holidays and involves approximately 12 days at Convitto Nazionale Umberto No 1 School living with a host family, and a 7-day cultural tour of Italy including such cities as Rome, Naples and Florence.
Families of students who wish to participate in the reciprocal trip to Italy are encouraged to host a student from Italy or one of our other sister schools, the year before or after their participation or support the school’s International Programs in some way.
Long term student exchanges between Convitto Nazionale Umberto No 1 School and Norwood International High School are currently being negotiated.

Asia American International Academy (AAIA)

The Taiwanese sister school exchange was established in 2024.
Every ‘even’ year, AAIA students and staff from Taiwan visit NIHS, and every ‘odd’ year, students and staff from Norwood International High School visit Asia American International Academy.
The Asia American International Academy Sister School trip occurs during the Term 3 holidays and involves approximately 7 days at Asia American International Academy living with a host family, and a 7-day cultural tour of Taiwan.
Families of students who wish to participate in the reciprocal trip to Taiwan are encouraged to host an Asia American International Academy student the year before or after their participation or support the school’s International Programs in some way.
Each year there is an opportunity for two students from Asia American International Academy and Norwood International High School to undertake a long term exchange of 2 to 3 months. Global Summit
As an internationally accredited school (from both the Council of International Schools and International Baccalaureate Organisation), Norwood International High School is committed to providing opportunities for students to develop as active global citizens, empowering them to make a difference in this changing world.
As part of our commitment to internationalism, Norwood International High School hosted the first Global Summit of its kind in South Australia in 2019 with the theme “Enriching Humanity through Innovation and Entrepreneurship”.
During this 5-day event students were supported to develop a deeper understanding of the United Nations Global Goals by working in culturally mixed teams (with other passionate students from around the world) to explore possible local and global solutions. This rich learning program featured keynote speakers, interactive workshops, opportunities for sharing cultures and local cultural excursions.
Approximately 60 students and 20 staff from 12 schools from around the world participated in this exciting venture with students from Norwood International High School. The visiting schools were from Brazil, Italy, Germany, Greece, Japan, China, Vietnam, Hawai’i, New Zealand, and Queensland.
