In Term 2, Week 4, the Year 10 Outdoor Education class embarked on their final camp for the semester, a multi-activity trip on the Coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The group first participated in a lightweight expedition on the Heysen Trail, bushwalking for three days and two nights with all of their clothing, equipment and food packed into their Rucksacks. The group navigated their way along deep sandy beaches, battled their way up the notorious Tunkalilla Hill and took in the epic views from the cliff tops above Waitpinga Cliffs. The group were enthusiastic and took the challenges of the walk in their stride, their collaboration and support of one another was excellent to see.
On the third day of the walk, the student group walked independently to The Bluff near Victor Harbor, communicating with staff via UHF radio. Upon arrival at the final hill, students were greeted with a snack and an extra challenge – an abseil over the cliffs of The Bluff. Four students were daring enough to take on the task, making for a great way to end the walk!
On the final day of camp, students met the instructors from Victor Harbor Aquatics Centre and got kitted up for a session in the surf. Students donned thick wetsuits and hoods and enthusiastically braved the cold water to surf in great learning conditions.
This group of Outdoor Education students all demonstrated actions that align with the school’s motto By Daring and By Doing and their curiosity for taking on new challenges made our trip an enjoyable learning experience!
