Berri – 9 – 10 December

The Riverland Regatta was held at Berri over the weekend of the 9 – 10 December. Our Club was represented strongly by 50 Students and a large group of parents, supporters, staff, and Coaches. An interesting weekend of weather in the lead-up and through the regatta ensured there was always a challenge to be overcome, both on and off the water. However, it was on the water where our rowers showed their skills and did their best work. We took part in more than 80 races over the two-day regatta, across all boat classes including singles, doubles, pairs, quads, fours and eights. Across the 80 races with the support of their coaches, we managed 52 podium places, including 22 Thirds, 21 Seconds and 9 Firsts rivalling our best results at this regatta.

Off the water, our team of supporters again proved why this community is so special to be a part of, their unwavering support through cheering, pushing and providing that final lift to every crew was electrifying to be a part of.  This surely assisted in some of the standout performances of:

  • 3rd Grade Men’s Double – Digby and Juan – 1st
  • 3rd Grade Women’s Quad
  • (Year 10s/11s) Jess, Alana, Saffron, Angelica, Harry (Cox) – 1st
  • (Year 8s) Serena, Imogen, Scarlett, Grace, Julissa (Cox) – 1st
  • (Year 10s/11s) Jess, Tamara, Alana, Saffron,, Harry (Cox) – 1st

  • (Year 8s) Henry, Jack, Seb, Aidan, Deacon (Cox) – 1st
  • SB Yr. 9/10 Quad

A note-worthy performance from Ollie (Yr 11) and Nick (yr 10) was in the 2nd Grade Men’s Pair Final, this championship race saw the boys challenge much older competition, to come home second in a very tricky condition.

A big thank you to our coaches, staff and parent helpers who ensured each one of our crews was set up for success. Our appreciation to Rowing SA and the team at Berri Rowing Club for putting on the regatta and managing the diverse conditions.

As a rowing program, we now look towards maintaining our fitness across the holidays and looking to accelerate into term one with camps and extended training days running in January.
