The National Schools Debating Championships

National Debating Championships 1

The National Schools Debating Championships (NSDC) are Australia’s most prestigious high school debating competition. The Championships involve one team from each state and territory, selected and trained by their local affiliate body, to compete and be named national champions. Participants benefit from a unique opportunity to broaden their intellect, heighten their confidence as public speakers, and meet high-performing students around Australia. We are very proud to announce that one of our own, Flinders, was elected as part of this team.

The 2024 National Schools Debating Championships was held in Adelaide. To join the competition a student has to trial, and be selected to be a part of the State Team. In South Australia the trialing process is held by SADA at St. Peter’s College, consisting of a total of 7 rounds and a general knowledge test (topics can range from law, international relations, economics, to pop culture and sports). After the trialing process 7 students will be selected based on their performance in the debates and the general knowledge test. This year’s team consisted of 2 students from Prince Alfred College, 2 students from St. Peter’s College, 1 student from Seymour College, 1 student from Loreto College, and 1 student from Norwood International High School. Congratulations, Flinders!
