Term 4 – Week 5 Results

Week 5 signalled the end of the road for the Senior Sport Teams as they played in their final fixtures of the shortened, term 4 season. For some students, this signifies the end of a long-standing contribution to the school sport program at NIHS whereby friends were born and long-lasting memories were made. We wish all our senior sport representatives, who have now represented NIHS for a final time, all the best for their future endeavours.

Boys Volleyball

Senior A2 – NIHS def by. St Ignatius College (0 – 2)

The Senior A Boys were unable to overcome a strong St Ignatius College in their final match of the season, going down 0-2 despite a solid performance from Phong.

Senior B2 – NIHS def. St Ignatius College (2 – 0)

Unlike the A boys before them, the Senior B side were able to turn the tide and had a fantastic win over St Ignatius College in straight sets (0-2). Usel played a crucial role in the team’s successes, holding his nerve consistently in the crunch moments.

Middle C2 – NIHS def by. Rostrevor College (1 – 2)

NIHS found themselves in a highly entertaining, closely contested matchup with Rostrevor College on Friday afternoon. After losing the first set narrowly, the boys responded to claim the second before Rostrevor again swung the momentum to claim the set and win, handing the boys their first defeat of the season (1-2). Samuel, again showed his class in an undermanned team.

Mixed Badminton

Senior A1 – NIHS def. Pembroke (8 – 1)

The Senior A boys were looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss last week against as they took on Pembroke at home. Carson led the way as the team fired on all cylinders to claim a comfortable 8-1 victory, getting back to winning ways.

Senior B1 – NIHS def by. Pembroke (3 – 9)

Things weren’t so comfortable for the Senior B1 squad however who, despite some strong individual performances, were defeated by Pembroke 3-9. Jianwei fought hard to claim individual wins as was recognised as the teams’ best player on the day as a result.

Senior C – NIHS def by. Pembroke (3 – 9)

The Senior C team found it difficult to match Pembroke in their clash rounding out the Senior program, going down 3-9 in total matches. Amna continued to show her development across both doubles and singles matches, emphasising her continued growth over many years representing NIHS.

Middle A2 Navy – NIHS def by. Glenunga International High School (1 – 8)

The Middle A2 Navy team travelled to Glenunga International High School over the weekend. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result they were looking for however, suffering a heavy 1-8 defeat. Despite a strong start, Senuthi was a bright spark in the defeat, securing a tightly contested 3-set win in her singles tie.

Middle B2 Navy – NIHS def by. Glenunga International High School (3 – 9)

The Navy B team, who accompanied the A team on their travels to Glenunga International High School tried their best but were also unable to claim a team win. Emma was awesome on the day, claiming a win in her singles match and competing in closely contested, 3-set doubles fixture.

Middle A2 Red – NIHS def by. Blackfriars College (3 – 6)

A highly entertaining round of matches between NIHS and Blackfriars took place at home on Saturday morning with the visitors edging in front on the score sheet to secure the win. Josh put in a strong performance as he rallied late to secure individual wins in his ties, however unfortunately this was not enough to get the team over the line.

Middle B2 Red – NIHS def. Blackfriars College (6 – 6, win total points)

Much like the A2 match, the B2 team found themselves trading blows with Blackfriars College in a match up that ultimately came down to a total points countback with both teams locked away on 6 individual match wins each. It was a useful learning experience to emphasise the importance of every point, in every match as NIHS claimed the close win. Anushri was excellent across the board, doing her bit to help edge the team home.

Year 7 – NIHS def. St Peters College (11 – 1)

A fantastic win for the Year 7 team saw them remained undefeated in the Year 7 competition, defeating St Peters College 11-1. Rishaad was crucial to the team win, claiming victories in both his singles and doubles encounters.

Middle Tennis

Middle C2 – NIHS def by. Pedare College (3 – 9)

The Middle tennis team braved the hot, windy conditions to challenge Pedare College on the NIHS blue courts. Misa and Raine found themselves in a tense tiebreaker, holding their nerve to serve it out to secure the win. It was Pedare however who adapted to the conditions best to claim a 3-9 overall team win.

Girls Basketball

Year 7 C2 – NIHS def by. Marryatville High School (Forfeit)

Unfortunately, a shortage of available players meant a forfeit for the basketballers. The girls will be hoping to regroup to take the court in their final match of the season next weekend.

Girls Volleyball

Senior A – NIHS def by. Cabra Dominican College (1 – 2)

The Senior A girls served it up to a strong Cabra Dominican College team but were narrowly defeated 1-2 in the end. Evie led from the front with her strong serving and consistency, continuing her strong form across the season.

Senior B2 – NIHS def by. St Pauls College (1 – 2)

It was a similar storyline for the B team whose close match up with St Paul’s College ended in a 1-2 loss. Despite the loss, there were several highlights, including the eye-catching performances from sister duo Zaria and Karenza who demonstrated their strengths on court.

Middle A – NIHS – def. Cabra Dominican College (2 – 0)

The Middle A girls flexed their muscles yet again on Saturday, claiming another scalp in Cabra Dominican College. Fatima was the standout performer as recognised by coach Matt Couzens.

Middle B2 – NIHS def. Mary Mackillop College (3 – 0)

The B girls put in a dominant display, demonstrated strong chemistry and cohesion as they secured a straight-sets win over Mary Mackillop College. NIHS controlled the match from start to finish, with Kyanna showcasing her excellent serving ability, securing multiple points throughout.

Middle C2 – NIHS def. St Ignatius College (3 – 0)

A similar story unfolded for the C team who cruised to a 3-0 victory over St Ignatius College. The girls were awesome, working as a unit to consistently turn defence into attack with Liliana leading the charge on that front.

Year 7 C – NIHS def by. Cabra Dominican College (0 – 3)

The Year 7 girls were unable to overcome the strength of Cabra Dominican College as they suffered a straight sets defeat. Lucy continued her strong form on the season as she was again recognised as the team’s best player.

Cricket

Middle B1 – NIHS def by. Trinity College
NIHS: 10/78 in (15 overs)
Trinity College: 4/145 (20 overs)
Trinity College won by 70 runs.

Batting first, Trinity College posted a healthy total of 145 highlighted by some powerful boundaries. Christian had his sights set on chasing down the target after innings change over, powering his way to 19 runs before being dismissed. Unfortunately, the Trinity bowling attack gained the ascendency soon after as the wickets kept on tumbling, leaving the boys 70 runs short.
