Term 3 – Week 3 Results
Senior Basketball

Gleeson College proved to be too strong across all three senior basketball grades on Saturday morning. The C team went down by 26 points despite a good performance by Taher, whilst the B boys, led by Muhammed also suffered at the hands of a strong opponent (42-78). Similarly, the Open A team, started strong to lead at half time but faded as the match went on to be overpowered by a rampant Gleeson outfit. Dean continued his strong form this season and was named as NIHS’ best on the day as a result.

Middle Basketball

All smiles for the middle grades however, particularly for the C team who kicked off proceedings with a comfortable 16-point against Gleeson win thanks to another superb showing by Tobey. The B boys followed up in convincing fashion as they finished the game 31 points to the good on the back of an all-round display from Ruowen. The stage was set for the A team, who found themselves in a 2nd vs 3rd clash that would see the winner progress to the grand final next week. A high octane, entertaining battle saw both teams fire on the offensive end with no shortage of highlights, emphasised by Luca’s scoring prowess. In the end, it was Norwood who held their nerve to run away 10-point winners, booking a spot in the grand final.

Another week, another strong performance by the Year 7 boys who applied pressure on both ends of the court to complete a 15-point win against Marryatville. Nate proved to be a handful in offense whilst Logan was formidable on the defensive end.

Middle Soccer

An entertaining morning of soccer witnessed both the middle teams at Unley High School in a top of the table contest. Despite a gallant team effort, emphasised by the character demonstrated by Henry, the B team fell just short of a desired result with the score line reading 4-3 in favour of Unley at the final whistle. The stress of spectators was not eased by the A match that followed which also saw plenty of goals and a tense finish. In the end, the match ended with a 3-3 draw that was credit to the skill and effort displayed. Jai and Elliot were named as the A team’s best in the thrilling encounter.

Table Tennis

The Middle B team found themselves in a close affair against St. Paul’s on Friday evening with both teams trading individual tie wins that contributed to a close final count for the overall victory. Oscar’s success in both his singles and doubles matches help secure a close 9-8 win overall. It wasn’t to be for the Senior team however who fell to a strong Glenunga outfit in a match that ended 17-3 in favour of GIHS.

Girls Soccer

The Middle soccer girls were unable to capitalise on their opportunities in front of goal on Saturday despite creating several chances. The same cannot be said for their St. Michael’s opponent however, who were clinical in securing a 3-0 win as the sun shone on Saturday. Lillia emphasised her continued development across the season with a strong performance despite the loss.

Girls Netball

The Year 9 girls brought about one of their best performances of the season over the weekend. Unfortunately, they were edged out by Mercedes College by 5 goals at the final whistle but left proud of their efforts. Alyssa’s shooting was a feature of the day to keep the girls in with a chance across the 4 quarters.

The Year 8 match panned out in similar fashion with the girls well and truly in the contest for the most part. Similarly, the girls were unable to get their noses in front to clinch the result but rather fell just short in an honourable loss (20-25). Hazel offered valuable contribution in the defensive end, regularly repelling Mary Mackillop forays forward.

Mary Mackillop proved too strong for the Year 7 girls who went down by 19 early on Saturday. The team did a great job supporting each other on the court, especially with multiple players playing out of their usual positions. Anna did a great job leading in front at centre passes and all the way down the court whilst Letizia had several important interceptions in defence.

Girls Badminton

The Senior girls performed extremely to record a hard fought 8–5 victory against St Dominic’s at the weekend. Aleena demonstrated her strength across both singles and doubles ties to help secure the result. The girls are now poised to take their place in the B grade Grand Final with the hopes of capping off a successful season.

The Middle A Badminton girls were excellent in their display against St. Dominic’s to clinch a 6-4 overall win against a strong opponent. The win now sets up a rematch, whereby the girls will come against the same opponents in a playoff for overall 3rd place in the competition.

There were no matches for the Middle B2 team who had a scheduled BYE.
