Term 3 – Week 2 Results
Senior Basketball
Saturday witnessed our Senior Basketball teams travel to Pedare for competition across all 3 grades. The C team kicked off proceedings, encountering a dominant Pedare outfit who ran away 55 points to the good despite a good performance by Ari. Things were far closer in the B game that followed, a game where NIHS fell agonisgnly short in a tense 2-point thriller that swung the way of the hosts. Burhan continued his strong form in the back half of the season to be recongised as Norwood’s best on the floor. Unfortunately, the Pedare pressure proved too much to handle for the A side also who went down by 27 despite a disciplined performance by Dean.
Middle Basketball
NIHS played host to the corresponding Middle Years fixtures over the weekend without the presence of the A team however, who were scheduled a BYE. The first match saw the C team struggle against Pedare’s strong offense and restricting defence as they were unable to overturn a 26-point deficit despite another strong game from Hamish. All smiles for the B team however, who dug deep across all four quarters to secure a winning result. Ruowen was a dominant force in the paint, providing a focal point in attack to assist in 4-point win.
The Year 7 team delivered a standout performance as they showed up to defeat a strong Rostrevor College team 47-30. Jack was again ferocious in defence, whilst Nate provided a strong target in offence.
Middle Soccer
The Middle B team kicked the dew off the surface bright and early Saturday morning. As well as the dew, the boys also kicked the ball into the back of the net on multiple occasions to set up a comfortable 11-1 win against St. John’s Grammar. Danny was a strong contributor across the 80-minutes, whilst Rueben was also credited for his performance.
The success of the B team was followed up by a much more closely contested fixture. In a matchup that saw momentum swing both ways for extended periods, the Norwood boys fought hard to clinch a 3-2 win as the final whistle blew. Elliot demonstrated his continued development, consistently repelling St. John’s attacks to help steer the team across the line.
Table Tennis
It was back to winning ways for the Open C squad who were able to defeat St. Peter’s College on Friday evening. Lachlan performed extremely well on his debut in the #1 seeded position to help the team secure a 13-7 overall win.
There was no match for the Middle team who had a BYE.
Girls Soccer
The girls’ soccer team faced a tough test against St Michael’s College on Saturday morning. As it panned out, the test proved a little too tough with St. Michael’s securing a 3-0 win. Regardless of result, the girls can be proud of their efforts and resilience shown against a strong team.
Girls Netball
A beautiful Saturday morning saw the netball girls take to the courts with the hopes of securing victory. The Year 9 girls got off to great against St Ignatius College emphasised by a long-range goal scored by Chiara. Unfortunately, a strong start was not enough to secure the win however, as St. Ignatius extended out to a final, 16-goal winning margin.
The Year 7 girls’ team were unable to overcome a Sacred Heart outfit who sit on top of the ladder in their clash (44-7). Overall, the score line did not reflect their efforts, highlighted by a strong closing quarter to finish. Lucinda was strong in defence, gathering intercepts all over the court whilst Erica did an amazing job in the goal circle, grabbing plenty of rebounds and shooting most of the team’s goals.
The Year 8 girls were defeated by Marryatville by 22 at the weekend despite strong performances by Mia and Madison.
Girls Badminton
The Middle A team faced a challenging match against St Ignatius College, ultimately falling short of a win with the score reading 2-4 overall. Yodi was excellent on the day, winning her doubles match up with a strong showing.
A thrilling encounter in the B category saw NIHS edge out St Michael’s College 6-6 in a fixture that came down to a total point countback after both sets finished with 6 game wins a piece (126-112). Alia performed superbly in her singles match, gaining a win to help clinch the overall result.
The Senior A/B team had a BYE on Saturday.
Statewide Competitions
Open Girls Basketball
After opening round success against Cabra in Term 2, The Open Girls’ Basketball team travelled to St. Michael’s College during the week to face off against both Sacred Heart and the host team.
Unfortunately, the girls were not able to achieve their desired result across both games but can be proud of their efforts against two of the strongest teams the state has to offer. Polly showed her class throughout the day whilst Gloria offered constant presence all day. Lara also showed outstanding spirit, battling it out against girls much older than herself. While saddened by the defeat, the girls took solace in knowing that without any year 12’s in the team, they can look to come back even stronger next year and challenge for the Division 1 prize.
Open Boys Badminton
The Open Badminton boys visited Glenunga International High School to compete in Round 1 of the Statewide Knockout Competition against GIHS and Adelaide International with only one school of the three able to progress through to the finals.
Up against AIS initially, the boys flexed their muscles to secure a comfortable 8-0 win across the 8-matches much as GIHS had done prior to them. This set up a grand final like fixture where NIHS would put themselves to the test against a powerhouse in Glenunga, a team who had claimed the previous 5 state titles in the Open Boys division.
Despite being competitive and commendable in their efforts with many matches going down to the wire, the strength of GIHS was just too much to overcome for the boys who lost 1-7 in overall matches across the doubles and singles ties. Congratulations to Yeshas (seed #1) who managed to defeat his opponent in an epic 3 set thrilling singles match up.
The team will look to re-enter stronger next year.
