Term 3 – Week 1 Results

The Winter Sport Program resumed over the weekend with 14 teams reclaiming their positions on field, court and table, representing NIHS across six different sports.

Senior Basketball

Facing off against local rivals, Unley, the Senior schedule kicked off with the Open C team going down heavily at the hands of a strong opponent despite a strong performance by Burhan (18 points). The Open Bs were next on show, delivering a powerful display to defeat UHS by 20 points thanks to a strong showing from Muhammed who was excellent on both ends of the court. Finally, the Open A team took their chances to secure a hard fought 10-point win on Saturday. John was excellent on the offensive end to score 19 points, whilst Austin played his role on defence, restricting the Unley offence.

Middle Basketball

Similarly, to the Senior boys, the Middle Basketball teams delivered a mixture of impressive performances and close contests on Saturday morning against the same opposition, Unley. The Middle A boys cruised to a comfortable 36-point win on the back of a stellar performance across the board on both ends of the floor, particularly highlighted by the efforts of Blake and Ari. Things were far from comfortable for the B team however, who clung onto to a 2-point lead in the dying stages of the match to secure a narrow win. Lei was a standout performer for the Middle C3 team who claimed their share of the spoils with a hard fought, 10-point win.

A high quality, team effort saw the Year 7 team return to winning ways, defeating Glenunga by 16 points at home. Jack was elite on the defensive end, whilst Logan sunk a massive 3-pointer to help put the result beyond doubt.

Middle Soccer

Unfortunately, both the Middle A3 and B3 soccer matches were postponed due to weather/pitch condition.

Table Tennis

The table tennis fixtures saw both our teams travel to Nazareth on Friday to play alongside one another in the same timeslot. Overall, it was Nazareth who secured the result in both ties, however there were plenty of positives to take out of the night, particularly the efforts of Rohan (Year 7) who was able to win both his single and double ties despite the overall result.

Girls Soccer

There was no game for the Girls’ soccer team on Saturday with a scheduled BYE fixtured.

Girls Netball

The netballers braved the cold to return to the court on Saturday, with all three teams returning to action. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be in terms of end results for the girls, who all were defeated by strong Sacred Heart outfits however can be credited for their spirited performances. Sarah (Year 9), Sassika (Year 8) and Lucy (Year 7) are all worthy of recognition for their efforts within their respective teams, personifying resilience and teamwork throughout.

Girls Badminton

The Middle team were strong in their efforts to defeat St. Dominic’s over the weekend. Ultimately, the team fell short of claiming the win, going down 4-8 in total matches. Despite the loss, Xantheh was recognised for her superb performances in winning both her singles and doubles matches.

Looking Ahead

Next week, in support of Australians affected by breast cancer, School Sport Associations SAAS, SACSSGSA and IGSSA have scheduled PINK ROUND into the sports fixture calendars for all sports games.

We encourage players, officials, supervisors, and spectators to wear some PINK to raise breast cancer awareness, generate discussion encouraging breast screening, and show support for the 20,000+ women and men diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia every year.
