Senior Basketball
The NIHS faced a stern challenge across all 3 divisions against St John’s Grammar over the weekend. The C team kicked off proceedings with a close 5-point loss despite a strong performance from Dominik. Similarly, the B boys played well as a unit but ultimately fell short of a win in their match up with the final scoreboard reading 30-44. A tough morning for an undermanned A squad however as they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a strong St. John’s (13-90). Austin can be credited for his spirited effort and resilience in a disappointing defeat.
Middle Basketball
Following on from last week’s draw, The Middle A side once again had spectators moving forward to the edge of their seats as they found themselves in yet another nail-biting finish. Blake was at the centre of the action the week, making no mistake from the free-throw line in the dying stages to secure a memorable 1-point win on Saturday (58-57). Hamish continued his superb form in the C team, helping to guide the team to a 15-point win in a team that is developing nicely. Unfortunately, the Middle B team was unable to join the winning ways, going down by 29 despite another quality performance from James who is continuing to build a case for a rise into the A team.
Back to winning ways for the Year 7 basketball boys as they had a successful outing against visitors, Prince Alfred College. Nate put up another 20+ point performance in the win, emphasising his standing as one of the competition’s best.
Middle Soccer
An early kick off for the Middle A team may have been their demise as they encountered their first defeat for the season, going down to Scotch College 2-5. The loss in the A’s paved the path for the B team to take centre stage on Saturday, an opportunity they took with both feet to storm to a comprehensive 7-2 win against the same opposition. Well done to Oliver who displayed his class on the pitch, demonstrating his improvement and development over the course of the season so far.
Table Tennis
Both the Middle and Senior table tennis teams travelled to Pembroke in search of wins on Friday evening but were met by strong Pembroke outfits who had other ideas. In what was an evenly matched encounter that witnessed a number of quality individual performance such as those by Oscar, the team fell agonisingly short of a result (9-11 in total matches). Things were a little tougher over on the Senior tables as Pembroke took a commanding lead and went on to run out convincing winners (3-17) despite a strong individual showing from Lachlan.
Girls Soccer
A St. Michael’s forfeit saw the Middle girls earn a win without a match.
Girls Netball
The Year 9 B girls fought hard on Saturday morning led by key players Sarah and Sally but were ultimately defeated by a stronger Marryatville line up with the scores reading 11-41 at the final whistle. of NIHS 11 – Marryatville 41. Additionally, the Year 7/8 C1 team also encountered tough opposition in Cardijn, falling to a 20-goal loss despite the best efforts of Charlotte. ‘Oh so close’ for the Year 7 girls who fell a mere 2 goals short of Nazareth in what was a low scoring affair (9-11). The close loss highlights the improve of the team who can sense a win on the horizon.
Girls Badminton
Both the Middle B and Senior A girls faced off against St. Dominic’s over the weekend as the Middle A team took the opportunity for a well earnt rest with a scheduled BYE. Unfortunately, it was St. Dominic’s who took the honours in both fixtures, winning 0-5 and 2-4 respectively. Alia (Middle B2) played in an epic match that saw players tie on 21 points each whilst Aleena (Senior A) was again a strong contributor for the senior team.
