Sport Report – Term 2, Week 4

Soccer
Senior Basketball

The Open boys made the trip down to the home of local rivals Unley High School on Saturday. In closely contested battles, both the A and B boys came away with wins by 6 and 21 points respectively. Dean starred for the A’s, whilst Partick was superb the B team.

Unfortunately, the C’s fell just short in their clash, losing 21-23 despite the best efforts of Ari.

Middle Basketball

It was all class from the Middle A boys on Saturday as they dismantled Unley by 56 points in a one-way affair. Antonio was again a standout on both ends of the court, whilst Jacob found his range from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Middle B boys survived a late scare to claw their way over the line in a match that ended tensely. James & Ruowen were dominant from start to finish in offence, combining for an extraordinary 50+ points.

Unfortunately, the C boys were unable to get over the line in their match, falling 4 points short with the scoreboard reading 32-36 at the final siren. Lei was recognised as the team’s best player on the day.

The Year 7 boys were well rested coming off a week off to continue their undefeated streak for the season on their way to a 13-point win over PAC. Mylo continued his scintillating form as a playmaker for the side.

Middle Soccer

The Middle A team earnt a well-deserved rest over the weekend to allow the Middle B’s to take centre stage at home to Woodcroft. In an entertaining fixture, the boys recovered from a 1-0 half time deficit to run away 2-1 winners against a strong opponent. Oliver was showcased his talent to earn himself ‘man of the match’ honours.

Table Tennis

The NIHS Table Tennis Arena was buzzing on Friday evening with both the Middle and Senior teams playing home fixtures. The Middle boys kicked off proceedings in style to account for St. Ignatius 16-4 helped by a strong performance from Jack.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Senior team who followed, succumbing to a strong Adelaide High outfit (5-15) despite the best efforts of Kenneth & Mattia.

Girls Soccer

Reward for persistent effort was personified by the Middle Girls soccer team over the weekend, who notched up their first win of the season in defeating Cabra 6-1. Alyssia & Lilia were influential in the teams’ successes on Saturday morning.

Girls Netball

Tough going for the netball girls with defeats across Year 7, 8 and 9. Despite the recent run of results, the girls continue to bring positivity to a tough situation as they eagerly await regrading at the completion of next weekend’s round of fixtures. Sarah was a standout performer for the Year 9’s, whilst Eva (Year 8) & Lila (Year 7) also produced strong performances despite the results.

Girls Badminton

A strong opposition in the Middle A/B competition saw the girls defeated by St. Dominic’s 0-6 despite some close ties.

More luck for the Middle B2 and Senior A/B girls however, who each secured 4-2 wins over their opponents thanks to dominant displays from Akaisha (Middle) & Heidi (Senior).
