Sport Results – Term 2, Week 1
Week 1 of Term saw the return of the Winter School Sport program for our soccer, basketball and table tennis teams competing in the SAAS competitions.
Senior Basketball
St John’s Grammar School stood in the way of an opening round win for the Open A team on Saturday who suffered a heavy 46-point loss to a strong side despite a strong showing from Dean.
The same cannot be said however for the Open B and C sides who incredibly both achieved nail biting, 3-point wins against the same opposition. Boyu was a standout performer for the C side, whilst Connor shot the lights out in the B team to help them survive a late surge from the visitors.
Middle Basketball
The Middle basketball teams played visitors to St. John’s in their openers, performing well despite mixed results.
It was all smiles for the Year 7 side, who comfortably defeated St. Ignatius on the back of a colossal performance under the basket from Nate (28 points). The Middle C3 also smiled as they joined the winners last, securing a hard-earned 10-point win with the help of a strong showing from Tobey.
Less smiles in the Middle A3 and B3 camps however, with both teams facing defeat in contrasting fashion. The B boys were in the contest across all four quarters before falling agonisingly short, succumbing to St. John’s by a mere 4 points despite a strong showing from James. Unfortunately, it was a comfortable defeat for the Middle A side who went down by 36 points to a strong St. John’s outfit. Luca was named as the best player in the loss.
Middle Soccer
A tense weekend on the soccer pitch saw both the Middle A and B teams square off against long-time rivals, Unley High School. In a fixture that was utilised as a grading trial, the B side demonstrated showcased their talent first up, notching up a hard earned 3-2 win thanks to a composed display from Josh. In a similar vein, the A squad held onto a healthy early lead to clinch a 4-3 win despite a late Unley charge. Elliot was recognised by the coaching staff for his strong performance in marshalling the back 4.
Table Tennis
The Middle Table Tennis team served up a hot start to the season, accounting for St Pauls College with relative ease (18-2). Rohan was superb in the win, winning both his singles and double ties in a convincing display.
Week 2 will see the girl’s teams join in on the action, with teams representing NIHS in a number of soccer, badminton and netball competitions.
