During Term 2, Week 6, the Open Boys Football team ventured to Charles Campbell College to compete in Round 1 of the Statewide Knockout Football Competition.
In a 4-school pool, St. Paul’s College, Banksia Park International School, Charles Campbell and Norwood faced off with the aim of progression into the next round.
NIHS vs. Banksia Park
In their first game, the boys faced the reigning champions, Banksia Park, who were looking to reclaim their title once again. Banksia showed their strength by flexing their muscles to gain the early ascendancy, breaking away to lead for 3-goals at the main break.
After the break, the talent of NIHS began to shine, clawing their way back into the contested whilst closing the scoreboard gap. With only moments to spare, a Norwood goal resulted in a narrow 1-point lead and what seemed like it would be a historic win. Unfortunately, this was only to be undone by a clutch Banksia goal in the dying seconds to snatch the win as the final siren sounded.
Despite the loss, the boys should be proud of their efforts, showcasing their fighting spirit and talent against a formidable opponent.
Final Scores
NIHS – 7.8 – 50
BPIS – 8.7 – 55

NIHS vs. St Paul’s
Given the loss to Banksia, the boys were out of contention for progression but still had a match against St. Paul’s to look forward to.
The boys were excellent from start to finish, setting the pace early to jump out to a handy lead early on. From here, the boys didn’t let up, fending off any resurgence made by St. Paul’s to maintain their lead throughout. As the siren sounded, the scoreboard reflected a comfortable 4-goal win for Norwood, which was a justified reward for effort.
Final Scores
NIHS – 9.6 – 60
SPC – 5.7 – 37

- Luca (Year 12) who captained the side and led from the front over both fixtures.
