Australian Space Design National Finals Recap!

ASDN 7

What an incredible weekend (18-19 January) at the ASDC Finals! Our school was proud to be one of the top ten national finalists from across the country. Our students teamed up with peers from Padua College, Brisbane, to form an aeronautical engineering company and tackle the ambitious Request for Tender (RFT) for the 2055 Columbiat Space Settlement. The challenge? Design a futuristic space settlement for 1,500 residents at the Earth-Sun L1 point, supporting the construction of a solar shield to mitigate global climate change—all within a high-pressure, 26-hour window!

Our students worked tirelessly during those 26 intense hours, navigating minimal sleep and tight deadlines to deliver a project that balanced feasibility, creativity, and innovation.

The weekend offered so much more than the challenge itself:

  • Mentorship from industry experts who shared invaluable insights.
  • Support from SDCA Alumni, shedding light on tertiary education and career paths.
  • Tutorials on advanced engineering disciplines.
  • Networking with engineers, academics, and like-minded students from across Australia.

The event concluded with formal presentations judged by industry professionals. While we didn’t secure the top spot this year, we’re thrilled to have achieved two significant awards:

  • CJ’s Highly Commended Speaking Skill
  • Faith’s Outstanding Leadership

A huge thank you to ASDC for inspiring the next generation of engineers and innovators.

A massive thank you to Padua College for your incredible teamwork, mentorship, and support, making this experience unforgettable for our students.

We also deeply appreciate the parents and families who supported our students at the finals. Your encouragement truly made a difference!

Here’s to reaching for the stars!
