From Monday 24 March to Sunday 30 March, Year 12, Nickolas, has been representing Norwood International High School at the Australian Rowing Championships on Lake Barrington, Tasmania. An intense week of high-level racing saw Nick having to manage varying conditions against the best high school and club rowers in Australia.
Early in the week, he moved through heats, repechages and into the semi-finals in the under 19 men’s single scull and under 21 men’s double scull (With old scholar Igor Zarubin).
The second half of the week, culminating on Sunday morning, saw him move through an intense racing schedule in the School Boy Single Scull. He had to go the hard way to the final, needing to race a Heat, Repechage and Semi-Final. Guided by Brenton Terrell (Coach) he secured 3rd place in the Semi earning him a sport in the A final to go head-to-head with the top 8 male high school single scullers in Australia. An intense race yesterday morning (Sunday 30 March) in ideal conditions saw him push his own personal barriers and come home in 5th. An incredible performance and one to be exceptionally proud of.
Old Scholar Oliver Evans-Wood (2024) had some exceptional results with 2nd in the B final of the U21 Men’s Pair, 5th in the U21 Men’s Four, 5th in the U21 Men’s 8+. Old Scholar Igor Zarubin (2023) came 7th in the U21 men’s single scull and along with Oliver, represented SA in the South Australian Youth Eight (Coming home in 5th).
