Winter Sport Results – Term 2 Week 2
Senior Basketball
A closely contested round of senior basketball saw our senior teams fall agonisingly short of winning success on the floor. The round got underway with the Open C2 and C3 both being defeated by Pulteney Grammar (34–49) and Nazareth (21–33) respectively despite both teams showing promising signs of development exemplified by the performance of Taher (C3).
An epic encounter saw the Open B3 match end with both teams left scratching their heads as the scoreboard read 27-27 as the siren sounded. Ahmed levelled the score with a composed lay-up before Alex was starved of his attempt to win the match from a long-range attempt.
The A3 boys fought gallantly but ultimately fell short of a result in a heated affair. Burhan put in a solid shift however it was enough to steer the group over the line, falling to a 40-46 defeat.
Middle Basketball
In a mixed bag of results for the middle years, the A team suffered a 32–42 defeat at the hands of Nazareth in a competitive match despite the efforts of Antonio and Hamish. The Middle B team, led by Oscar stormed out of the blocks and never looked back, defeating Nazareth by 44 points. The C team showed strong glimpses but were not consistent enough over the 4 quarters, falling 12 points short of victory.
Senior Soccer
The First XI Soccer team were confronted with a tough test on Wednesday, coming up against a well-oiled St. Paul’s machine on a day whereby many also competed in the State-wide Futsal Competition. Marcus battled bravely in the centre of the park whilst Arsham provided a spark in the front third, however it was St Paul’s who emerged 2-0 winners on the day.
The Senior D1 team continued their strong form with an emphatic 10–0 victory over Scotch College. Alexios was a pillar of strength in the centre of defence, whilst David’s speed on the ball was a feature of the day.
Middle Soccer
The Middle A soccer team secured an impressive 7–1 win over Adelaide High School on Saturday. Archie was a constant threat for the opposition goalkeeper, showcasing his talent in creating goal scoring opportunities across the match.
The Year 7A team showed a maturing growth in their performance despite being outplayed by a strong Christian Brothers College in a 1–4 loss.
Table Tennis
The Middle Table Tennis teams had polarising experiences in their encounter with Pulteney Grammar on Friday evening, one that saw the C1 claim a solid 24–12 victory whilst the paired C2 team fell to heavy defeat.
Girls Badminton
It was a challenging round for the girls badminton teams with all teams aside from the Middle C1 team being defeated by their respective opponents. Despite the overall results, the girls displayed a determined resilience, highlighted by the efforts of Raine (Middle A) who narrowly lost her singles match in a tight 3 set battle.
Girls Netball
The Year 8/9 team continued their strong start to the season, recording their second win in as many weeks to overcome St. Ignatius with a 22–13 victory. Hazel and Lucy were recognised for their strong performances in being awarded best players honours on the day.
The learning continues for the Year 7 girls who were both defeated on Saturday morning by their opponents Kildare College (5–25) and Mercedes College (3–18). The girls will be determined to continue to improve over coming weeks.
