
Winter Sport Results – Term 2 Week 1
Week 1 saw the Winter sport season officially kick off at Norwood International High School with an exciting line-up of 20 teams representing the school across five different sports in both middle and senior years. This season marks a special milestone for the school with the First XI soccer team being entered into the Weekly SAAS competition for the first time in several years.
Senior Basketball
It was a quiet week for the Senior Basketball teams with the Open A3, B3, and C3 games all postponed due to court availability. The Open C2 team faced a tough challenge to begin against Cabra College, going down 7–66 in a one-sided contest.
Middle Basketball
The Middle A3 team delivered a dominant performance, defeating Sacred Heart College with a commanding score of 83–27 led by strong outings from Hamish and Noah. The Middle B3 team played a tight match but narrowly lost to Sacred Heart College, 35–37 despite the efforts of Tobey. The Middle C3 team had a bye this week.
Senior Soccer
NIHS Senior Soccer train began with full steam ahead as The First XI secured a solid 1–0 win over Cabra College in a tightly contested match with Archie providing the defining goal. Meanwhile, the Senior D1 team was unstoppable on Saturday morning overpowering Christian Brother’s College with a resounding 13–1 victory. Sean and Kalvin were amongst the main threats on the day, finding the net on multiple occasions.
Middle Soccer
The Middle A team continued the momentum, defeating Glenunga International High School 5–1 with standout performances from William and Ryan. The Year 7A team, however, met strong opposition and fell to Sacred Heart College, 2–8 with Maximo starring in his role as goalkeeper.
Table Tennis
In Middle C1, NIHS emerged victorious against Adelaide High School with a 14–6 win. Rohan was excellent in the match, winning both his singles and doubles ties. The Middle C2 team had a scheduled bye.
Girls Badminton
NIHS Girls Badminton teams experienced a mix of results this week. The Middle A team impressed with a 5–1 victory over St Ignatius College on the back of a dominant display by Xantheh while the Middle C1 and C2 teams both fell in close matches, each losing 2–4 to St Aloysius College and St Dominic’s Priory, respectively. The Senior A/B team closed out the round strongly, also securing a dominant 5–1 win over St Dominic’s Priory. Nanako was a standout performer on the day.
Girls Netball
The Year 8/9 C1 netball team got their season off to the right start, overcoming St Ignatius College 26–14 on Saturday morning. Gemma and Olivia provided the team with successful foundations in attack and defence. In contrast, the Year 7 teams struggled, with the B1 team losing to Mercedes College 6–52, and the C1 team going down to Gleeson College 2–22. They both will look to bounce back in week 2 of the competition.
