Earlier in Term 1, four of our Year 8 STEM students participated in the Fuelling the Future Challenge—an exciting competition focused on innovation and sustainability. The challenge required students to design a hydrogen-powered Formula 1 race car, exploring emerging technologies and environmental solutions.
Their dedication and creativity paid off, with the team winning their category—an outstanding achievement that reflects both their hard work and enthusiasm for STEM learning.
Here’s what the students had to say about their experience:
“The Fuelling the Future Challenge, run by STEM Hub and the Australian Grand Prix, gave us the chance to explore hydrogen power, design vehicles, and present our findings through hands-on STEM activities. Our project, Fuelling the Future, was an incredible experience!”
“We studied steam methane reforming, fuel cell vehicles, and hydrogen fuel. We even created a video showcasing our knowledge and our design for a hydrogen-fuelled Formula 1 car. We definitely didn’t expect to win, but learning about real-world science concepts and having the opportunity to do something new and exciting outside of school was amazing!”
Congratulations to Letizia, Avani, Audrey, and Ridhima on this fantastic result!
