Senior Basketball
Open A3: NIHS defeated Gleeson College in a well-structured match, capitalising on quick transitions and aggressive rebounding. The team-maintained control from the outset and sealed a confident win.
Open B3: NIHS dominated Gleeson College through a fast-paced offensive game. Crisp passing and full-court pressure kept the opposition scoreless for long stretches, highlighting NIHS’s depth across the bench.
Open C3: NIHS secured a hard-fought win over Gleeson College, using excellent court spacing and strong perimeter shooting. Their communication and support play proved vital in closing out the match.
Open C3(2): NIHS took down Blackfriars Priory School with a determined display. The side maintained defensive intensity throughout and made the most of second-chance opportunities on offence.
Middle Basketball
Middle A3: In a nail-biting contest, the Middle A team were narrowly defeated by Gleeson College (60–61) that was decided with a last second match winner. Despite the result, Noah was recognised for his strong performance, proving to be a constant threat in attack.
Middle B3: Unfortunately, due to a lack of players Gleeson were unable to field a full side on Saturday. The team took the opportunity for an internal practice match in lieu of their fixture.
Middle C3: The C team overcame Gleeson College 36–25 in a hard-fought affair that remaining close across all four quarters. Great defensive hustle and fast breaks were key in pulling ahead during the second half led by a determined Enoch.
Soccer
Senior Soccer
First XI: A disappointing outing saw the First XI unable to overcome Rostrevor College in a tight and physical match that ended 1-0. Despite creating several scoring chances, the side couldn’t find the equaliser after conceding midway through the second half. Keyaan was awarded the ‘Pink Medal’ which came as recognition for his performance in ‘Pink Round’ which aims to recognise and spread awareness around the topic of breast cancer in the community.
With this match bringing about the completion of the home/away season, the team has finished in 3rd place and will face St. Paul’s College in their semi-final next week as a result.
Senior D1: The Senior D1 team were stunned by a strong Glenunga International on Saturday morning, failing to trouble the scorers in a 0-2 loss. The team battled hard in midfield but struggled to break down a strong GIHS defensive unit.
Middle Soccer
Middle A: The Middle A team cruised to a comfortable win against an understrength opposition in Cardijn College. Archie was a standout performer on the day, finding the net on 5 occasions to help the team storm to an emphatic win.
Year 7A: It was a genuine goal fest in the Year 7A match on Saturday with both teams putting plenty past the keeper. Unfortunately, as the final whistle sounded, NIHS were narrowly edged out by Christian Brother’s College (4–5) despite the best efforts of star player Aldo.
Table Tennis
Middle C1: In what was an extremely even match up on Friday afternoon, the Middle C1 team managed to sneak over the line in their fixture that saw total matches tied 10–10 at the end of play. Norwood, aided by the performances of Eric claimed the overall win on countback of total sets won (24-20).
Middle C2: Playing alongside the C1 team, the C2 also managed to edge out St Ignatius 8–7 in a close encounter. Number 1 seed Phoenix demonstrated his ability, winning both his singles and doubles matches in comfort.
Girls Badminton
Middle A & Middle C1: No matches for the Middle A and Middle C1 teams who both had scheduled byes over the weekend.
Middle C2: The Middle C2 team faced a strong opposition in Loreto College over the weekend and as a result were defeated 1–5.
Senior A: NIHS defeated St Ignatius College 4–2 in a quality match where Baoxuan starred to win both her singles and doubles matches and help steer the team to victory.
Girls Netball
Year 8/9 C1: Happy days for the Year 8/9 C1 team who recorded a convincing 30–12 win over Nazareth College over the weekend. Strong mid-court linking, and accurate shooting allowed the team to pull away in the second and third quarters. Danielle was named as best player on the day for her outstanding four quarter effort.
Year 7 B2: The Year 7 B2 team were outplayed by a powerful St Michael’s College, going down by 30 goals. Despite the score line, the girls showed strong resilience to battle the match out until the final whistle.
Year 7 C2: In a tense, low scoring match, the Year 7C2 team eventually overcame St Paul’s College 15–11 in a close contest. Solid defence and patient attacking paid off, with the team pulling ahead in the final quarter.
